What is Short Story?

A short story is a work of fiction that is shorter than a novella and typically ranges from 1,000 to 20,000 words. Unlike a novel, a short story usually focuses on a single incident or character, and has a more limited scope. The short story form allows the author to explore a particular theme, or paint a vivid picture of a character or place in a relatively small amount of words. Short stories are often published in magazines, literary journals, or anthologies, and can also be found online. They are a popular form of fiction, and many famous authors have written short stories throughout history. Some of the well-known authors of short story are Edgar Allan Poe, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ernest Hemingway and O.Henry to name a few.
