What is Prose?

Prose is a form of writing that uses ordinary language, as opposed to poetry, which uses a more structured and rhythmic language. Prose can be found in many different forms such as novels, short stories, essays, news articles, and speeches. It is the most common form of written language and can be either fiction or non-fiction. Fiction prose is a made-up story and non-fiction prose is a true account of events or information.
